Location : Brooklyn, NY (Hybrid- 3 days in, 2 days WFH)

The Opportunity :

Our client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Interim Assistant Controller to join our finance team. This is a critical role responsible for providing leadership and support during a transitional period, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial reporting. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of non-profit accounting principles and a proven ability to manage complex financial processes.

Responsibilities :

Reporting to the Controller, the Interim Assistant Controller will be responsible for a range of high-level financial tasks, including but not limited to :

Year-End Reporting : Lead the preparation and finalization of year-end financial statements and supporting schedules.

Advanced Reconciliations : Perform complex balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and resolving discrepancies.

Accounts Receivable (AR) Management : Oversee and reconcile accounts receivable, including grant funding and program income.

General Ledger (GL) Reconciliation : Conduct thorough and timely reconciliations of general ledger accounts, identifying and correcting any variances.

Year-End Closing : Facilitate and manage the efficient and accurate year-end closing process.

Audit Support : Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, providing requested documentation, explanations, and analyses for the annual financial audit.

CFR (Consolidated Fiscal Report) Preparation : Assist in the preparation and submission of the Consolidated Fiscal Report (CFR) in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Form 990 Reporting : Contribute to the preparation and review of information required for the annual Form 990 tax return.

Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

A strong emphasis on year-end closing, reconciliations, and audit support.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is a MUST. (e.g., VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, complex formulas).

Experience with Yardi is a significant PLUS.

Demonstrated experience with non-profit accounting principles and regulations is a plus

Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.

Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation : $50.00-$55.00 / hour
