Job description

Material Handler

The Material Handler is responsible for performing the physical tasks involved in the receiving, staging, returning, shipping, storage, destruction, and inventory management of products, materials, parts, supplies, and equipment. This role involves unpacking and checking material received against purchase orders or invoices, maintaining records of received material, and rejecting unsatisfactory items according to procedural requirements. Additionally, the Material Handler picks and stages material for production work orders, packs material for shipments, and performs cycle counts, item verification, consolidation, and transfer of material. Adherence to good documentation practices is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform receiving, staging, returning, shipping, storage, destruction, and inventory management tasks.
  • Unpack and check materials against purchase orders or invoices.
  • Maintain accurate records of received materials and reject unsatisfactory items.
  • Pick and stage materials for production work orders.
  • Pack materials for shipments.
  • Conduct cycle counts, item verification, consolidation, and transfer of materials.
  • Adhere to good documentation practices.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with pallet jack, inventory, shipping, and receiving.
  • Previous experience with an ERP system is beneficial.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Excel and Smart Sheets.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Experience with forklift, RF scanner, packaging, loading, material handling, inventory control, and stocking.
  • Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Ability to work in a cold room environment, with temperatures as low as -20 degrees.
  • Strong drive to grow in the role and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Comfortable lifting weights of at least 20 lbs., with a maximum of 40 lbs. by oneself.

    Work Environment

    The work schedule is from 7 : 30 am to 4 : 00 pm, with occasional overtime related to shipping activities. Overtime is voluntary and may include working on a Saturday. The work involves operating in different temperature environments, including cold rooms at -20 degrees. Employees should be comfortable opening large freezers and working in packing areas while wearing appropriate attire like jackets. The role may eventually require travel to a new 106,000 square foot facility in Otay Mesa.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, California.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 / hr.
