Junior Staff Accountant
About the Role :
Our construction company is seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Junior Staff Accountant to support our growing finance team. This role will assist with project-related accounting, billing, accounts payable / receivable, and general ledger activities. The ideal candidate is a fast learner, comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment, and interested in developing a long-term career in construction accounting.
Key Responsibilities :
Assist with the processing of accounts payable, including matching invoices to purchase orders, verifying job cost coding, and obtaining proper approvals.
Support accounts receivable functions by preparing customer invoices, tracking collections, and posting payments.
Help maintain accurate job cost records, including updating cost reports and supporting materials for project managers.
Assist in tracking subcontractor compliance documents such as COIs, lien waivers, and contract agreements.
Prepare and enter journal entries under the supervision of senior accounting staff.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and vendor statements monthly.
Support the month-end close process by preparing schedules, accruals, and reconciliations.
Assist with payroll-related duties such as reviewing timesheets, verifying job codes, and ensuring proper allocation of labor costs.
Maintain organized accounting files and support audit or year-end review requests.
Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal project teams to resolve discrepancies.
Support continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred (or relevant accounting coursework / experience).
0-2 years of accounting experience; construction industry experience or internships a strong plus.
Basic understanding of GAAP and job costing principles.
Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Procore, Viewpoint, QuickBooks Construction) a plus.
Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
