  • Position Summary

    Performs a variety of responsibilities related to the preventative maintenance repair fabrication general maintenance installation inspection service and operation associated with being a carpenter while ensuring compliance to state regulations. Remains available to respond to emergencies on a 24hour basis; responds to emergencies to minimize and / or eliminate the need for school closures due to mechanical failure. Performs maintenance and service in other trade areas such as Plumbing Electrical Roofing HVAC and Boiler repair. Performs snow plowing activities as needed.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    • Schedules and performs regular inspections necessary for basic preventative maintenance.
    • Schedules and performs preventative maintenance and service to District Card Access.
    • Troubleshoots repairs fabricates maintains installs inspects services and / or operates building equipment and / or building structures associated with carpentry etc.
    • Receives requests for service prioritizes requests and schedules work schedules to respond to work orders.
    • Verifies and approves requisitions; and orders controls and accounts for supplies and equipment in order to maintain inventory records.
    • Inspects jobs equipment and tools in order to assure compliance with codes guidelines school standards and safety rules.
    • Inspects plans prints sketches and specifications for all jobs and provides technical assistance.
    • Evaluates and tests new products equipment and processes.
    • Responds to questions complaints and needs of school district staff students parents and the public in order to provide technical and trade information and assistance.
    • Prepare records and service reports of job time and materials expended on the work order.
    • Assists in maintenance and repair of plumbing electrical roofing HVAC and boiler systems.
    • May assist in snowplow activities.
    • Performs other related duties as directed by supervisor.

      Education :

      This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D..

      Experience :

    • Minimum of one year of related experience servicing Garage Door Hardware Door Hardware and General Carpentry Required.
    • Certificates Licenses or Registrations :

    • Coursework accredited certificate and / or licenses in the area of skilled trades preferred.
    • Securing a Maintenance and Alterations license is Preferred and if obtained within 5 years the employee will be upgraded to a skilled Maintenance pay level.
    • Knowledge :

    • Knowledge of advanced mathematics and their applications required.
    • Knowledge of methods materials tools equipment occupational hazards and safety precautions related to building maintenance and electrical required.
    • Knowledge of design techniques tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans blueprints drawings and models required.
    • Abilities :

    • Ability to read and interpret district policies guidelines blue prints diagrams schematic drawings handbook and government regulations required.
    • Ability to read and comprehend safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals required.
    • Ability to estimate quantities of material and labor to complete work orders required.
    • Ability to write simple correspondence required.
    • Ability to communicate effectively using the English language with students and school administrators and staff required.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form required.
    • Ability to solve practical problems involving several concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists required.
    • Ability to effectively use basic computer software applications required.
    • Ability to perform job duties using various types of equipment and tools including but not limited to; power construction equipment measuring devices power tools and testing equipment etc. required.
    • Ability to perform job duties in extreme hot and / or cold temperatures required.
    • ABILITY TO OBTAIN MAINTENANCE AND ALTERATIONS CONTRACTOR LICENSE PREFERRED.
    • ABILITY TO PASS APTITUDE TEST REQUIRED.
