Police Officer Position
The City of Sumner is establishing an Initial Eligibility List for the Police Officer Position. The pay range is $44.28-$56.66 per hour plus potential for education premiums. There is an incentive bonus of $10,000 paid in two increments. Applicants must possess a current Washington State Peace Officer Certification. The primary responsibilities include patrolling designated areas, answering calls and complaints, observing and reporting on conditions conducive to crime, issuing infractions and citations, preparing reports and criminal cases, conducting investigations, and serving civil processes. The position reports to a Police Sergeant and supervises the community to ensure laws and regulations are followed.
Desired minimum qualifications include education equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, and less than two years of experience as a fully commissioned law enforcement officer. Necessary special requirements include a valid Washington State driver's license, a background check, and successful completion of training requirements. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and police practices, as well as the ability to handle persons resisting arrest and meet physical standards, are also required.
Applicants must complete and submit the required forms including the Peace Officer Certificate, Waiver and Authorization to Release Information, Pre-Employment Investigation Discovery Waiver, and Personal History Statement. Veterans' preference candidates must also submit the Veterans' Scoring Criteria Status Declaration form and service verification document.
