Role Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer plays a key role in designing, improving, and maintaining manufacturing processes and systems to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent production of high-quality products. This position focuses on implementing robust safety programs, creating reliable manufacturing documentation, optimizing assembly processes, and driving cost reduction and operational excellence initiatives.

Responsibilities

Safety

  • Assist in formalizing and implementing a comprehensive safety program to prevent accidents and ensure OSHA compliance.
  • Assist in the development safety check sheets and conduct routine safety inspections.
  • Participate in monthly safety team meetings (~15–30 minutes).

Manufacturing Documentation

  • Develop and maintain a document control system to ensure reliable and repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Roll out an official part numbering and document numbering system.
  • Implement a structured change control process to prevent unauthorized product or process changes.
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all assembly processes, with templates.
  • Develop engineering drawings for all purchased and assembled parts / products using standardized templates.
  • Establish inspection protocols for purchased products and components.
  • Manufacturing Processes

  • Assess and streamline assembly processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Break down assembly processes into definitive steps to track quality and cycle time.
  • Create and deploy shadowboards for part kits and other organizational tools.
  • Design and implement automated quality testing systems.
  • Assist in developing processes to use work orders and implementing a production planning process.
  • Manufacturing Improvements and Design

  • Design proprietary parts and improve current components as needed.
  • Conduct make-or-buy analyses for custom parts and qualify alternative components and suppliers.
  • Cross-functional Support

  • Collaborate with R&D to vet new products and move into production.
  • Work with Technical Support to troubleshoot hardware issues.
  • Miscellaneous

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering or process improvement.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills for working with cross-functional teams, production staff, and management.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in manufacturing environments.
  • Strong analytical skills for process optimization and cost reduction.
  • Experience developing engineering drawings, process documentation and SOPs.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and document control systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and drive cross-functional initiatives.
