Job Title : Veterinary Technician

Shift : 6 : 00 AM – 6 : 00 PM
Schedule : 8 hours / day, 40 hours / week
Pay Rate : $28 – $30 per hour
Position Summary :
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Veterinary Technician to support regulatory veterinary operations in a dynamic animal racing environment. The technician ensures the proper and secure collection of samples (blood, urine, hair) from racing animals, maintaining the integrity of procedures and supporting regulatory compliance.
Primary Responsibilities :
Collect biological samples (blood, urine, hair) from racing animals in accordance with strict protocols
Maintain the chain of custody for all collected samples; securely prepare and ship to designated laboratories
Ensure cleanliness and organization of the laboratory and test barn facilities
Assist with veterinary examinations and record animal health and injury data
Participate in injury review meetings and maintain thorough documentation
Support the enforcement of Arizona statutes and racing regulations; report any observed violations
Aid in the processing of split samples and regulatory investigations
Conduct inspections of backside barn areas to ensure compliance with health and safety standards
Notify trainers when animals are added to the veterinarian’s list
Respond to inquiries from trainers, owners, and veterinarians regarding approved procedures and protocols
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :
Thorough understanding of Arizona Racing Commission rules and applicable statutes
Strong knowledge of veterinary procedures and equine anatomy
Ability to accurately identify racing animals using physical markers (tattoos, calyx, dimples, etc.) and registration documents
Familiarity with investigative procedures and accurate recordkeeping
Experience in handling excitable or high-energy animals safely and humanely
Understanding of racing breeds, horsemanship practices, and racing equipment
Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to multitask effectively
Observational skills to identify and document rule violations
Clear, professional communication skills with both internal teams and the public
Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple departments
Qualifications :
Certified Veterinary Technician license issued by the Arizona Board of Veterinary Medicine
High School Diploma or equivalent
