Our Physician Assistant provides comprehensive care to women, including performing exams, assisting in labor and delivery, managing prenatal and postnatal care, ordering tests, and assisting in surgeries. They work under physician supervision, taking medical histories, formulating diagnoses, developing treatment plans, and prescribing medication, all while adhering to state and national regulations and licensure.
Responsibilities :
- Conduct routine gynecological exams, pap smears, and screenings; provide prenatal and postnatal care; and assist in labor and delivery.
- Take patient histories, perform physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and radiology, make diagnoses, and develop treatment plans.
- Assist in gynecological surgeries, and perform minor procedures such as IUD insertions and removals, Nexplanon insertions and removals, and endometrial biopsies.
- Prescribe medications as authorized by the supervising physician and state guidelines; provide patient education on reproductive health, contraception, and preventative care.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR) and documentation, and coordinate patient care with other healthcare providers.
- Provide emergency care and stabilization measures in situations like hemorrhage or shock, as appropriate under their scope of practice.
Qualifications and skills :
- Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
- State licensure as a Physician Assistant in Alabama and certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Previous experience in a women's health or OB / GYN setting is often preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems and familiarity with diagnostic tools, such as fetal monitoring systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Must follow the core duties and scope of practice as defined by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners, which may include specific regulations on prescribing certain medications.
