Sela is a dual language Hebrew and English school that proudly serves and educates 300+ PreK-3 - 5th grade students in Washington, DC. Mission :

- The Opportunity The part-time Elementary School Counselor will design and deliver a developmental, culturally responsive school counseling program to meet the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of Sela PCS students in grades PreK3-5.
- This role collaborates with teachers, administrators, and families to promote student success in alignment with Sela’s mission and dual-language, globally focused model.
- Job Responsibilities Develop and deliver a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with ASCA (American School Counselor Association) standards and the school’s mission.
- Plan and facilitate classroom lessons, small groups, and individual counseling sessions to build students’ social-emotional, interpersonal, and self-management skills.
- Use student data (attendance, behavior, and academic indicators) to identify needs and measure program impact.
- Collaborate with instructional staff to integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) themes into classroom instruction and dual-language activities.
- Provide solution-focused individual and group counseling for students experiencing academic, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
- Support positive school climate initiatives and assist with conflict resolution and restorative practices.
- Participate in student support meetings (e.g., MTSS, RTI) and help implement intervention plans.
- Conduct risk assessments and coordinate referrals to external mental health or community resources when appropriate.
- Work closely with teachers, administrators, and the RTI Team to ensure coordinated services for students.
- Engage and collaborate with families through communication, workshops, and meetings to support student well-being.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and community resources to connect families with outside supports.
- Maintain confidential records of counseling activities, student interactions, and referrals in accordance with ethical and legal standards.
- Stay current on best practices in school counseling, SEL, trauma-informed care, and cultural responsiveness.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development as requested.
- Job Qualifications, Skills and Characteristics Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid DC school counselor certification (or eligibility to obtain one).
- Experience working with elementary-aged students in diverse and multilingual settings.
- Strong understanding of social-emotional learning and child development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, staff, and families.
- Commitment to Sela PCS’s mission of dual-language immersion, diversity, and global citizenship.
- Experience in a dual-language or immersion school setting.
- Training in restorative practices, trauma-informed approaches, or MTSS / RTI frameworks.
- Experience using data to guide counseling decisions.
- Job Information This is a non-exempt full-time position.

- This position reports to the Director of Special Education. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Full-time equivalent salary range :
$65,000–$90,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.Part-time salary range :
