About The Role

Harlan Electric, a subsidiary of MYR Group, is looking to add an Estimator to our Syracuse, NY team. Title and compensation will be based on experience.

Associate Estimator

Entry-level opportunity designed for candidates with no prior estimating experience. Ideal for individuals interested in electrical construction who are eager to learn through a structured training and mentorship program while supporting cost estimates, reviewing project documents, and developing foundational estimating skills.

Estimator

For candidates with 13 years of estimating experience preferably in electrical construction (transmission/distribution or commercial) or construction. This role involves preparing and analyzing project cost estimates, reviewing plans and specifications, and collaborating with project teams while continuing to grow technical and estimating expertise.

Essential Functions

1. Prepare or assist in preparing complete cost estimates for assigned for transmission, distribution and substation projects
2. Plan and execute work while meeting customer defined submission deadlines
3. Schedule and attend field job walk with customer, subcontractor, and construction personnel to determine constructability requirements
4. Attend on site pre-bid meetings and perform job site visits. This involves travel that can require overnight stays
5. Perform or assist in performing take-offs/evaluations for estimate preparation
6. Solicit material vendor pricing and subcontractor proposals including assembly and distribution of project documentation into RFQ/RFP packages
7. Compare various project documents for accuracy and consistency
8. Participate in estimate review process with internal and external stake holders
9. Assist construction personnel throughout the project lifecycle in tracking and understanding basis of cost estimate
10. Assist in the preparation and submission of change orders
11. Participate in job close-out meetings at the end of a project to close any loops in the estimating process
12. Regular and predictable attendance
13. Other duties as assigned
14. Essential functions of this position are to be performed in a Company-designated office or field location
15. Understand and comply with the Company's Code of Business Conduct and Ethics Policy and other industry-specific professional and ethical standards

About You

Qualifications

• Ability to understand, and/or possess basic knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services - Preferred

Preferred Education

• Construction Management or other undergraduate degree preferred
• High school diploma or GED required

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Proficient in Microsoft applications with emphasis on Excel
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills
• Good communication skills, including verbal, and written
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and changing priorities as necessary
• Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude
• Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player
• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Organizational skills

• Salary: Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. MYR Group reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
