Position Summary : Join our dynamic team as a Lab Assistant, where you'll play a vital role in processing blood and other body fluids, managing sendouts, and conducting various tests as needed. You will be responsible for obtaining blood samples from patients, ensuring proper techniques are followed for accurate specimen collection and labeling, all while adhering to established protocols.
Your training will focus on becoming proficient in venipunctures and skin punctures. This role may also involve patient registration and interviews, where you'll collect important demographic and financial information while verifying the medical necessity for Medicare patients.
Minimum Qualifications :
Supervision : Responsible to the Laboratory Manager, Drawsite Manager, and Supervisor.
Work Environment : This position involves routine exposure to bloodborne pathogens and potentially infectious materials in a well-lit and ventilated area. Prepare for exposure to various odors, toxic fumes, high noise levels, and changes in temperature. You will also interact with carcinogenic, hazardous, and radioactive materials, as well as sharp instruments, and face the mental challenges involved in handling infectious materials while impacting patient care directly.
Physical Requirements : The role may require you to work beyond a standard shift as necessary due to workload and staffing challenges. Duties will include standing, sitting, and stooping for prolonged periods. Occasionally, you’ll need to assist with the safe lifting and transferring of patients. Therefore, the ability to push and pull weights up to adult sizes and reach above shoulder height is required. Candidates should possess fine motor skills, good color vision, hearing, and sight, as the job will often demand rapid working under time constraints.
