Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool
The facility features multiple intensive care units dedicated to serving critically ill pediatric patients across various specialties. The ICU Float nurses provide coverage across three major areas :
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) : 24 beds, over 1,700 admissions annually, Gold-level Beacon Award for Excellence.Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) : 30 beds, dedicated to congenital and acquired heart disease, providing advanced modalities such as ECMO and heart transplant support.Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) : 60 beds, Level IV referral center caring for critically ill or premature neonates, especially those with severe cardiac or pulmonary conditions.Unit Details :
Average Daily Census : ~250Shifts : 12-hour Day (07 : 00–19 : 00) / Night (19 : 00–07 : 00)Scheduling : Block scheduling, every other to every third weekend (approx. 4–6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule)Systems : EPIC documentation, Pyxis medication system, SBAR communicationSupport Services : In-house intensivists, respiratory therapy, rapid response, IV / lift / pharmacy / phlebotomy teams, and interpretation services available 24 / 7Certifications Required : BLS, PALS (ACLS and NRP preferred)Experience Required : Minimum 2 years in PICU or strong CVICU background with float experience preferredStaffing Ratios : Typically 1 : 1 or 1 : 2 depending on acuitySpecialized Skills / Procedures :
ECMO management, hemodynamic monitoring, central line care, ventilator management, CRRT, tracheostomy care, post-cardiac surgery care, and use of the Broselow system for pediatric emergencies.
