Position Summary :
The Audit Resource Strategy Manager is responsible for strategically managing and optimizing the allocation of professionals within KSM's Audit group. This role ensures that engagement teams are staffed effectively, resources are utilized efficiently across offices, and the group's capacity aligns with both client commitments and the firm's strategic objectives. This individual will balance day-to-day operational scheduling with long-term strategic forecasting, enabling the Audit group to deliver high-quality client service while fostering team growth and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities :
Strategic Audit Resource Planning
- Develop, implement and manage the following :
- Plan to bring all office locations under a unified Audit scheduling umbrella, ensuring consistency and equity in assignments across the firm.
- Plan to onboard acquired firms that incorporates assessing acquired firms' current state and how they will transition to the Audit groups standards.
- Plan to integrate new associates, ensuring an equitable experience across industry groups to foster consistent professional development.
- Annually analyze audit workloads by office to determine if engagements should be shifted between locations for optimal utilization and client service delivery.
- Build, maintain, and continuously improve rolling audit resource forecasts, incorporating expected client wins, potential client losses, and seasonal peaks.
- Partner with Audit leadership and firm management to align staffing with engagement budgets and revenue goals, using resource utilization and financial data to drive scheduling decisions.
- Collaborate with IT and Operations to leverage resource management software, AI, and practice management tools to streamline capacity forecasting and reduce manual rework after each busy season.
Audit Resource Utilization & Engagement Staffing
Oversee weekly monitoring of Audit staff utilization, ensuring alignment with engagement schedules and adjusting assignments to avoid inefficiencies and compression.Proactively identify underutilized professionals and recommend strategies (e.g., reallocating work, adjusting engagement timing, redistributing charge hours) to optimize productivity.Ensure equitable distribution of audit engagements to support staff development and achievement of charge hour goals.Balance the Audit group's peak season workload by strategically planning assignments, avoiding excessive overtime, and mitigating periods of underutilization during non-peak seasons.Work with Off-Shore Outsourcing Director to ensure proper visibility and utilization of off-shore staffing needs.Manage PTO, leave, CPE and personal hours plans (PHPs), within the Audit group to ensure appropriate coverage and minimal disruption to client service.Assign professionals to audit teams and industry groups strategically, considering technical skills, staff preferences, client needs, and revenue objectives.Partner with onboarding talent development team to ensure that staffing decisions support a positive internship experience, career progression, and technical growth.Ensure engagement staffing aligns with independence rules and professional standards (AICPA, PCAOB, state boards).Appropriately manage resource skills inventory to ensure staff are assigned where appropriately qualified.Process Improvement & Reporting
Develop processes to provide Audit leadership with early visibility into group capacity, enabling partners to set realistic client goals and adjust staffing plans proactively.Establish reporting that links audit scheduling with budget performance, allowing for more accurate engagement forecasting and improved accountability.Develop and manage the maintenance of KPIs and interactive dashboards that provide audit leadership with real-time, on-demand insights into resource utilization, capacity, and performance.Implement granular scheduling practices for complex audit engagements, including planning, fieldwork, and wrap-up phases.Continuously evaluate and improve scheduling processes to enhance both efficiency and employee experience, adjusting for scalability and firm goals.Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field5+ years of progressive experience in resource management, operations, or engagement scheduling; experience in a public accounting firm strongly preferred.Strong analytical skills with the ability to balance detail-oriented tracking with high-level strategic planning.Technical proficiency in resource management software, scheduling systems, and data-driven reporting, and ability to work with innovation team to customize reporting needs.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to negotiate, influence, collaborate, and mitigate conflict across levels.Demonstrated leadership experience managing and coaching teams or processes within a professional services environment including change and integration management.Advanced user of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams)We are an equal opportunity employer.
