Position Overview
The Director of Operations is a senior leadership role responsible for guiding the overall performance and efficiency of multiple healthcare sites. This position ensures that systems, policies, and practices support quality patient care, operational excellence, and financial sustainability. Working closely with executive leadership and clinical directors, this individual provides direction and oversight to ensure that operations align with the organization's mission, long-term goals, and regulatory requirements.
The Director of Operations is instrumental in building organizational capacity, leading process improvement initiatives, and supporting the growth and performance of multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Responsibilities
Operational Management
- Provide leadership and oversight for daily clinical operations across multiple practice sites, ensuring effective scheduling, patient access, and workflow optimization.
- Develop and monitor performance indicators to assess operational efficiency and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Standardize and streamline operational processes to enhance consistency and service quality.
- Direct operational initiatives including new site openings, service line expansions, and technology or EHR implementations.
Financial & Administrative Oversight
Partner with financial and managed care departments to enhance billing processes, payer relations, and revenue cycle performance.Assist in developing and managing operational budgets; monitor expenses and ensure cost-effective use of resources.Oversee facilities management, including maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance; address site-level operational needs promptly.Leadership & Staff Development
Establish and maintain a strong management structure that supports organizational goals and accountability.Recruit, train, mentor, and evaluate operational and management staff, fostering professional growth and performance excellence.Lead workforce planning, training, and succession initiatives to build team capability and retention.Promote a culture of transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement.Compliance & Quality Improvement
Collaborate with medical leadership to ensure adherence to clinical quality standards and compliance with applicable regulations.Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local requirements as well as funding and accreditation standards (e.g., HRSA, FQHC, etc.).Coordinate and prepare documentation for site inspections, audits, and quality reviews.Conduct regular site visits (up to 20% travel) to assess operations, identify needs, and ensure policy adherence.Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree required; Master's in Health Administration (MHA), Public Health (MPH), or Business Administration (MBA) preferred.Experience
Minimum of 5 7 years of progressive experience in healthcare or clinic operations management.At least 2 3 years in a director-level or senior leadership role.Experience in community health, primary care networks, or federally funded health programs preferred.Strong understanding of healthcare operations, compliance, and financial management principles.Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.Compensation & Benefits
