Summary:

Electrical Engineers and Electrical Designers (within our Community Sector and our Education Practice) are responsible for the design, coordination, documentation, and delivery of electrical building systems for K-12 and Higher Education environments. Depending on experience level, individuals may perform engineering calculations, prepare and review design documents, coordinate with project teams, manage tasks or projects, provide technical leadership, mentor others, and support business development activities. All team members are expected to uphold a client-centric mindset, demonstrate quality and integrity, and contribute to a collaborative, inclusive, and continuously learning environment.

Today's buildings are rapidly evolving. Electrical system design is no longer as simple as lighting and power design overlaid onto an architectural background. Our engineers understand that the electrical system forms the foundation that makes the building come to life. It's a responsibility that we take very seriously. We balance the rigorous requirements of life safety and code compliance with practicality and aesthetic considerations to deliver a design that supports life of the building and delivers on our client's vision for the project.

Henderson's Electrical Services:

  • Power Systems Design & Distribution
  • Medium Voltage Design
  • Emergency & Standby Power Generation
  • Lighting Systems & Controls Design

  • Arc Flash Studies
  • Emergency Egress Illumination
  • Solar & Wind Power Design

Position Summary:

This role provides advanced technical expertise, leads discipline teams, oversees project quality, mentors designers and engineers, resolves major design and construction challenges, and contributes to practice-level strategy, operations, and business development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead electrical engineering design from concept through completion for complex or large-scale projects.
  • Direct or oversee the preparation of design documents, system layouts, detailed drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Develop solutions to advanced and highly complex engineering problems, providing discipline-wide technical guidance.
  • Serve as a mentor and coach across teams and practices, including supervising less experienced designers and engineers.
  • Participate in or lead staffing recommendations, training initiatives, and technical strategy development.
  • Provide quality oversight, including conducting and/or issuing final quality reviews to ensure compliance with standards and best practices.
  • Communicate with clients, resolve conflicts, and provide leadership in responding to technical questions or design challenges.
  • Lead or support strategic business development efforts and maintain key client and partner relationships.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record when assigned, ensuring technical accuracy, accountability, and adherence to professional standards.

Core Competencies:

  • Leadership & Influence: Inspires organizational culture, models integrity, and navigates ambiguity while motivating others.
  • Coaching & Development: Mentors talent across the discipline, fosters continuous learning, and cultivates constructive feedback loops.
  • Quality & Accountability: Drives high-quality outcomes, holds others accountable, and reinforces standards across the discipline.
  • Collaboration & Inclusion: Resolves conflict with diplomacy, promotes inclusive teamwork, and contributes to a collaborative environment.
  • Innovation & Professional Responsibility: Encourages innovation, maintains financial and technical responsibility, and stays current with industry advancements.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of relevant experience
  • K-12 or Higher Education experience is strongly preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred, required for EOR's.
  • Additional technical certifications (e.g., RCDD, NICET, CPD, LEED, WELL) highly preferred.
  • Advanced to expert proficiency in electrical engineering design, applicable codes and standards, Revit, Bluebeam, and construction processes.
