General Summary :
The Sterile Products Lead Technician is a health care employee that performs specific job responsibilities authorized by the Delaware Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
Responsibilities :
1. Sterile Products Production : a) Demonstrates competency as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) and an Advanced CPhT as defined by their respective job descriptions. b) Oversees day-to-day activities for sterile products preparation area, including batch production, compliance with environmental monitoring, cleaning schedules, and workflow for the area. Ensures batches are prepared and delivered in a timely manner.
2. Performance Improvement / Patient Safety : a) Performance Improvement - provides qualitative and quantitative results related to operational aspects of sterile products area (including nonhazardous sterile products, hazardous sterile products and IV Robotics).b) Monitors and trends errors and near misses to create a safe patient care environment.c) In conjunction with pharmacy leadership, implements workflow changes to the pharmacy and delivery to the patient care areas.d) Provides feedback to Pharmacy Leadership for Technician Performance evaluations.e) Participates in the Oncology Pharmacy Workgroup
3. Regulatory Compliance : a) Responsible for daily monitoring of compliance with USP Chapter 797 regulations. This includes monitoring staff, training, monitoring environmental controls (temperature, room pressure, etc.). Communicates with Technician Supervisor, Operations Manager and other Pharmacy Leadership for any identified issues.i) This includes all required personnel testing (ex. Growth Media)ii) Direct observation to include : (1) Sterile technique (Growth Media)( Gowning and garbing( Glove tip testing b) Ensures logs and other working documents are maintained and available for inspection. c) Assists in ensuring that IV Clean Room and laminar flow hoods / isolators are inspected and tested semi-annually or according to best practice recommendations. For areas not in compliance during annual inspection the technician will work with leadership to ensure standards are met.d) Monitors regulatory verification (Chapter 797 compliance) of all outsourcing vendors, and keeps compliance documents available on file.
4. USP Chapter 800 Compliance (Hazardous waste regulatory compliance) a) Oversees hospital policies and procedures related to USP chapter 800 including responsibilities of personnel handling hazardous drugs; facility and engineering controls; procedures for deactivating, decontaminating and cleaning; spill control; and documentation.
5. Educational Resource a) Provides timely feedback and assists in development of performance standards and ongoing reporting mechanism to evaluate staff operational performance.b) Provides training and competency development for all pharmacy staff (technicians and pharmacists) for the preparation of sterile productsc) Maintain a competency file (using online database) related to sterile product preparation and handling of hazardous materials for each employee, available to the supervisor / manager for incorporation into the employee's file and for evaluations.d) Works with clean room technology to ensure operational efficiency; including the use of compounders.
