Position Overview
The Early Childhood Teacher / Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plays an essential role in supporting the growth, development, and health of children with complex medical needs. This hybrid position combines educational and caregiving responsibilities to promote each child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development in a safe, nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Child Development & Education
- Plan and implement individual and group activities to enhance children's developmental skills.
- Incorporate curriculum and therapeutic goals as directed by the Curriculum Coordinator and nursing team.
- Develop positive relationships with families and encourage their engagement in center activities.
- Participate in planning sessions, parent / team conferences, IFSP / IEP evaluations, staff meetings, and in-service trainings.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation as required by organizational policies.
- Support classroom organization, cleanliness, and safety at all times.
Clinical & Caregiving Support
Assist the nursing team in the delivery of daily childcare and medical support activities.Perform delegated clinical skills (vital signs, specimen collection, weights, etc.) under the direction of a Registered Nurse.Observe and report patient conditions, behaviors, and responses to care.Assist children with personal care needs such as toileting, dressing, diapering, and skin care.Support feeding and nutrition plans, including preparation, serving, and cleanup per individual care requirements.Maintain infection control practices, equipment cleanliness, and a safe environment for all children.Recognize and respond to emergency situations; initiate CPR as needed.Additional Duties
Provide guidance to substitutes, volunteers, and students in the classroom.Participate in center maintenance, meal preparation, and supply management.Safeguard children during center transport (if applicable), ensuring adherence to safety and medical protocols.Uphold all policies, procedures, and attendance standards set by the organization.Qualifications
Education & Credentials
Valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from an accredited vocational program.Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or enrollment in the Delaware Department of Labor's Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program .Pediatric Basic Life Support (BLS / CPR) certification (required).Experience & Knowledge
Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with infants, toddlers, or preschool-aged children in a group or clinical setting.Familiarity with Delaware's Office of Child Care Licensing (OCCL) regulations.Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.Compassionate, patient, and committed to providing exceptional pediatric care.Why Choose Pediatric Health Choice?
