Established in 1926, Family Service League is a social services agency transforming lives and communities through mental health, addiction, housing, and essential human services with more than 60 social service programs in over 20 locations. SCHEDULE Monday – Friday, 4pm-12am SUMMARYFamily Service League is seeking a full-time Advocate for a homeless shelter in Port Jefferson Station, NY. The Advocate will be responsible for conducting client assessments and assisting clients in achieving self- sufficiency through advocacy, counseling, and resource referrals. The Advocate will perform client intakes, unit and perimeter checks, and overall support for clients.

QUALIFICATIONSHigh School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in a human services or related field preferred.Prior experience working with the homeless population is preferred.Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, is required. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team are required.Ability to multi-task, be flexible and prioritize are required.Valid and clean NYS Driver’s License required. Flexibility to work at different sites is preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time, as well as moderate lifting up to 10-15 pounds.
