Duties & Responsibilities
Employees may perform any or all of the following :
- Engineering : Apply sound knowledge of utility substation designs and standards.
- Provide electrical design : For projects like relay upgrades, breaker additions / upgrades, transformer replacements, RTU installations, and new substations.
- Provide physical design : For projects like bus additions, new equipment installations, and new substations.
- Create project deliverables : Develop scope definitions, estimates, and schedules; collaborate with Project Managers to ensure on-time and on-budget completion.
- Prepare specifications : Develop specifications and material lists.
- Oversee drawings : Manage preparation of review sets and final construction sets.
- Handle project closeout : Oversee as-built revisions.
- Project Communication : Interact with clients, utility personnel, manufacturers' representatives, and others as needed.
- Stay informed : Keep up with developments in electric utility substation design & construction; suggest improvements.
- Serve as lead : Act as Lead Engineer on assigned projects.
- Perform site visits : Conduct documentation and inspections at job sites as required.
- Mentor team : Train Design Engineers, Designers, and Electrical CAD Technicians.
- Additional duties : As assigned by the Manager of Electrical Engineering or a Senior Protection & Control Engineer.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
Education
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.Required Experience
Minimum of 5 years of experience in substation design and constructionProfessional Engineering License or Professional Certification (desirable).Working knowledge of scheduling software and spreadsheet programs.Knowledge of applicable engineering codes.Skills
