Pay Transparency : The budgeted starting salary for this position ranges from $99,292.00 to $114,185.80 annually. This is a salary-exempt position.

Primary Worksite Location : Seattle office

  • Job Summary :

    The Treehouse development team currently raises $14+ million annually and is on a path to grow contributed revenue to $20 million over the next five years. To that end, we seek a dynamic and experienced major gifts fundraiser and inspired team leader to drive our efforts to secure essential financial resources that advance our mission, vision, and intended impact.

    The Director, Major & Individual Giving is a strategic leader responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy to grow philanthropic investment from individual donors. This role is central to advancing Treehouse’s mission by cultivating and stewarding transformational partnerships that deliver significant, sustainable revenue and meaningful engagement opportunities. This role will lead a team of fundraisers in qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding a mature donor base with significant untapped capacity, while building a continuous pipeline of annual fund, mid-level, and major donors, developing and managing a robust planned giving program. As a member of the Development leadership team, this position contributes to overall fundraising strategy, cross-team collaboration, and organizational leadership.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

    Strategic Campaign Planning & Leadership :

  • Design, implement and evaluate an integrated individual giving strategy, including annual fund, mid-level, major gifts, and planned giving programs.
  • Serve as the organization’s lead strategist on individual philanthropy, providing expertise, insights, and trends to staff, leadership, and the Board.
  • Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive campaign in partnership with the Chief Development Officer, Board of Directors, Emeritus Board, and executive leadership.
  • Participate in developing individual giving revenue projections and oversee budgeting and tracking expenses for all individual giving strategies.
  • Set and monitor performance metrics to ensure achievement of short- and long-term fundraising goals.
  • Partner with marketing and communications and learning and evaluation teams to create compelling donor-facing materials, including campaign collateral and impact reports.
  • Uphold and promote the organization’s commitment to anti-racist, healing-centered practice, embedding these values into all fundraising activities and strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information and sign a confidentiality agreement.
  • Donor Relationship Management :

  • Manage a personal portfolio of 50-75 high-capacity donors and prospects with a focus on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of six- and seven-figure gifts.
  • Develop and oversee cultivation and stewardship strategies that demonstrate donor impact and foster long-term engagement.
  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with regional and statewide individual prospects, ensuring a broad and diverse donor base.
  • Partner with marketing and communications and learning and evaluation teams to create compelling donor-facing materials, including campaign collateral and impact reports.
  • Write and present personalized investment proposals to prospective investors and deliver ongoing, personal reporting to donors on the impact of their investments.
  • Board & Volunteer Engagement :

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and Emeritus Board to identify, engage, solicit and steward potential and prospective donors.
  • Provide strategic support to board members, equipping them with tools and skills to assist in donor cultivation and solicitation efforts.
  • In partnership with departmental leadership, support fund development committee and Board meetings, providing updates and strategies to drive campaign success.
  • Team Leadership & Development :

  • Supervise, motivate, coach and evaluate a team of development professionals, fostering an inclusive and results-driven culture.
  • Build capacity across the team to create efficiencies, pipeline development, and support donor engagement at all levels.
  • Coach staff to drive meaningful interactions (moves management) each week with prospects, current and lapsed donors, including donors from diverse communities, and produce informative, concise contact reports for each donor interaction.
  • Ensure staff have access to professional development opportunities to enhance fundraising effectiveness.
  • Operations & Data Management :

  • In partnership with Development Operations, oversee the individual giving team’s effective use of donor databases, ensuring accurate tracking of donor interactions and gifts.
  • Establish and maintain systems for tracking campaign progress and timely forecasting, including detailed reporting on key metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with ethical fundraising practices and organizational policies.
  • Requirements : Qualifications :

  • 6+ years of progressively responsible experience in individual giving, with a strong emphasis on major gifts, campaign leadership.
  • 4+ years of supervisory experience leading the productivity and development of others.
  • Reliable transportation, current driver’s license, and maintain current insurance as required by Washington State, and provide proof upon request.
  • Successfully pass the annual Washington Motor Vehicle background check.
  • Successfully complete a Washington State criminal background check.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Proven track record of securing six- and seven-figure gifts from individuals and managing high-level campaigns.
  • Experience working with nonprofit boards and volunteer committees in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to coach and motivate staff.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage donors and serve as a compelling spokesperson and ambassador.
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking, with a track record of meeting ambitious fundraising goals.
  • Deep commitment to racial equity and social justice, and ability to effectively engage in candid conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive and effective working relationships with individuals of various ages, cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds and abilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage effectively in times of ambiguity and change.
  • Professional maturity and integrity with a high level of self-direction and sense of urgency.
  • Proficiency in donor management systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce) and data-driven fundraising.
  • Ability to travel regionally, statewide, and nationally as needed.
  • Ability and aptitude with Microsoft Office Suite and other technology necessary for successful day-to-day functioning in a business environment.
  • Working Conditions :

  • Full-time position.
  • Monday to Friday with occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
  • Must reside within Washington State to comply with workplace reporting requirements.
  • Regular travel to the Seattle office to meet with team members, colleagues, and donors.
  • Overnight travel as necessary.
