Position Description
This is a specialized Victim Advocate position that will be responsible for independent work acting as liaison between the Assistant State Attorney and victims of crime by providing crisis intervention, supportive counseling and resource / referral services to victims of sex crimes and domestic violence.

Duties
Inform Victims of crime of rights within the criminal justice system / ConstitutionProvide crisis and supportive counseling to victims of Domestic Violence and Sex CrimesAccompany victims to pre-filing interviews, discovery depositions, and court appearancesAssist victims to understand the criminal justice processMake referrals to appropriate community agenciesIntervene on behalf of victims or their family members who are having difficulty accessing community servicesProvide Judicial Accompaniment to Community Resource referral appointmentsAssist victims / survivors in applying for Crime Victim CompensationAct as a liaison between victims and prosecutorsAssist victims in developing and implementing viable safety plansFacilitate Judicial Support Groups / Psycho-EducationalFacilitate training sessions to Prosecutors, Local Law Enforcement, and Community agencies to enhance trauma informed practicesMaintain current and concise documentation of services providedMaintain current knowledge of SAO policies and proceduresMaintain current knowledge of research / information related to domestic violence and sexual assaultMinimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and two (2) years' experiences with work in the area of criminal justice, social science, counseling, public contact or customer service; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
OR
Bachelor's Degree or MSW and one (1) year experience within the State Attorney's Office and / or work in the area of criminal justice, social science, counseling, public contact or customer service; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred fluency in Spanish and / or Creole
