Senior Software Engineer for Trust & Safety

The Wikimedia Foundation is seeking an experienced software engineer to join our Product Safety and Integrity Team. In this role, you'll work in a flexible, mostly remote environment where collaboration and teamwork are key to achieving impactful results. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the largest knowledge-sharing platforms globally, powering Wikipedia and its sister projects that serve billions of pageviews each month across diverse languages. Your work will help ensure free access to information for all.

As a software engineer, you will collaborate closely with your team to :

• Develop and maintain proactive tools that empower communities to identify, mitigate, and prevent various forms of abuse across Wikimedia projects.
• Design privacy-conscious systems that detect behavioral patterns indicative of abuse while prioritizing user anonymity and minimizing false positives.
• Adapt detection and mitigation strategies continuously in response to evolving browser privacy standards and networking protocols.
• Work cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and researchers to create holistic and human-centered solutions that harmonize safety with freedom.
• Write robust, maintainable code with a focus on long-term sustainability and high-quality systems.
• Implement observability practices to uphold quality and system stability.
• Measure and report the impact of anti-abuse efforts across Wikimedia projects.

We are a remote-first organization, with a workforce spanning over 40 countries. Our competitive salary range for this position in the United States is between $141,352 and $175,725. This salary is determined by various factors, including the cost of living in your location. For non-US hires, compensation will be adjusted accordingly.
