The University of Hawai'i at Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law seeks to hire a senior faculty member (F5, 9-month) with expertise in Labor Law. The successful candidate must meet the University of Hawai‘i’s criteria for tenure and full professor status to be appointed to serve as the inaugural Leonard Hoshijo Endowed Chair in Labor Law. The successful candidate will have responsibilities and receive support for the development of a robust Labor Law curriculum and program at the Law School.

Salary commensurate with experience.

The Law School is located in Manoa on the flagship campus of the University of Hawai‘i system. Successful candidates would also be expected to contribute to and support the Law School’s innovative online Juris Doctor (JD) program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Sustained excellence and expertise in the field of labor law.
• Teach courses in labor law and related subjects.
• Conduct research and publish scholarship in law journals, books, or their equivalent in the field of labor law.
• Sustained leadership and service to the field of labor law, the law school, and University.
• Serve as a mentor to junior faculty.
• Sustained involvement in professional and self-development activities at an appropriately high level.
• Serve in leadership positions when appointed.
• Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Juris Doctor degree or equivalent terminal degree from a college or university of recognized standing, and demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarship in Labor Law, as well as in public service. A minimum of four (4) years of service as an Associate Professor. Professionalism in meeting and conferring with others.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, alumni, government officials, community members, and members of the bar with various backgrounds,andtothriveinmulticulturalandmultidisciplinarycontexts.
• Demonstrated understanding of and/or interest in learning about the unique history of organized labor in Hawai'i.
• Demonstrated excellence in and commitment to teaching law effectively in a variety of modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid.
