Insight Global is looking for a Drug Shortage Coordinator for a major health system in the Charleston SC area. This facility sits in North Charleston.
Core Responsibilities :
- Utilize available resources to identify and implement strategies to forecast or lessen the impact of medication shortages on patient care.
- For each individual drug shortage, partner with the pharmacy leadership team and impacted service line leaders to develop a shortage mitigation plan by identifying therapeutic alternatives, opportunities to eliminate waste or methods to alter how a medication is ordered, prepared or dispensed.
- Develop and maintain a standardize plan for managing drug shortages including strategies for assessment, planning, coordinating, communication, implementation and monitoring.
- Create and update a drug shortage platform, containing pertinent information for pharmacy staff including quantity on hand, usage data and any restrictions in place.
- Partner with the pharmacy buyer to purchase identified medications through alternative vendors based off usage.
- Partner with clinical pharmacists to lead practice initiatives and updates identified from safety event submissions to mitigate future medication errors.
- Resolves drug shortages promptly and oversight of product movement from the centralized pharmacy, once shortages are resolved to prevent waste as much as possible.
- Track drug inventory levels and anticipate shortages.
- Analyze usage patterns and forecast supply challenges.
- Act as the point person for shortage communication across pharmacy, physicians, and leadership.
- Liaise with manufacturers, wholesalers, and regulatory agencies for updates.
- Develop mitigation plans, identify therapeutic alternatives, and reduce waste.
- Implement alternative therapies when necessary.
- Maintain detailed records of shortages and actions taken.
- Generate reports for leadership and regulatory bodies.
- Train staff on protocols during shortages and emergency preparedness.
Qualifications :
Pharm D and Licensed Pharmacist in State of SC3 years of inpatient pharmacy experienceInnovative thinker and passionate for drug shortage, good communication and presentation skills are keyCompensation :
$140,000 to $165,000 per year annual salary
