Overview

The News Editor is responsible for the news section of The Xavierite. The News Editor assigns beats to news reporters and correspondents and maintains contacts with contributors for the News Section. Oversees the news section and its stories.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the news section and its stories.
• Responsible for the News Section layout of The Xavierite newspaper.
• Reports on all SXU and local area news events.
• Ensures that the News Section is 3 pages of content per issue.
• Writes stories following the pyramid news writing style.
• Ensures all articles are written accurately, fairly, and with as little bias as possible.
• Produces 2 articles per week and oversees section layout.
• Attends weekly section meetings with the Editor in Chief and Deputy Editor in Chief.
• Attends weekly general staff meetings.
• Meets weekly with section writers.
• Maintains weekly-posted office hours in The Xavierite office (6 hours per week).
• Attends a news writing workshop held by the Journalistic advisor and Assistant Director of Campus Life : Student Media.
• Ensures that The Xavierite website has up-to-date stories.
