Surveyor / Field Engineer Dec 2025

Eastern Excavating Co. is seeking a full time Surveyor / Field Engineer. The company offers a family atmosphere and has been well established in the Savannah, GA area for 35+ years. Very competitive compensation based on experience. This position will be responsible for construction layout for the various crews of our company. This will range from underground utilities, ponds, roads, parking lots, concrete work etc. A more detailed, but not all-inclusive list of duties is listed below :

• Operate Topcon Equipment and Software : Robotic Total station, GPS Base and Rover, Machine Control, Pocket3D and Magnet software
• Establish control and benchmarks for new projects
• Study and interpret plans and specs
• Performing general site layout and grade staking
• Asbuilt surveys of completed projects

Qualifications :

Prefer survey with a contractor, engineering or surveying company

Good math and reasoning skills

Strong communication skills

Ability to adapt, prioritize and react to changing construction environments

Ability to have a flexible work schedule; overtime and weekends if necessary

High School Diploma or GED; college degree preferred

Work Environment :

Work is performed outside in all types of environmental conditions. This position performs strenuous physical activity for long periods, under varying and adverse field conditions. This position must be able to stand / walk on uneven surfaces; manually manipulate, grasp, reach out and above shoulder, climb, kneel, bend, twist, and push / pull. Specific vision requirements include near, far, and color vision.
