Senior Software Engineer, Platform Observability

Everlaw is looking for a Senior Software Engineer that brings experience in building robust observability tooling, humility in their approach, and interest in expanding their skills in new directions. Tackling litigation with technology is a deep challenge that requires search, databases, data visualization, distributed systems, machine learning, real-time collaboration, nifty user interfaces, and more. We will encourage you to explore our entire system and work with significant autonomy across the stack. We care about finding self-driven engineers that love their craft, write clean software, use the right tools for the job, and avoid dogma. As a result, weve been able to build quite a bit of sophisticated technology with a small, talented team. Though our team has grown, we have maintained a culture where youll own serious features, write great code, learn a huge amount, and have a lot of fun. Engineering is the backbone of the Everlaw Platform. We build features and functionality into the product and ensure its smooth functioning with automation and monitoring tools. We also provide data and insights to the rest of Everlaw. This is a full-time, on-site position located in Oakland, California.

• We want you to feel like part of the team early on! Our onboarding process will integrate you into the company with informative sessions on our product, policies, processes, and team structure and goals.
• Were excited for you to learn, grow, and contribute right away! We trust that youll bring experience and knowledge that will uplift and uplevel the team, but we dont expect you to know everything on Day 1.
• Build observability strategies to support application and infrastructure metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and alerts.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IAC) using tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
• Monitor usage trends to identify opportunities to optimize efficiency and performance of our metrics database and logging tools.
• Improve our on-call and incident management processes by encouraging deeper understanding, communication, and trust.
• Support developer projects by influencing design and implementation of infrastructure features as well as providing technical guidance.
• Support compliance efforts by promoting continuous documentation of our processes and involvement in audits.
• Collaborate with Product Engineering, Security Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure and Release teams to build out and implement new features that are used in our production environments.
• Provide Technical Mentorship to other engineers by both sharing your technical knowledge and becoming an expert in an area of our code base.
• Be a Code Reviewer by reviewing code developed by others using your knowledge of programming languages, design patterns, and best practices. Contribute to documentation for internal engineering consumption or for external the Everlaw platform.
• Be on-call and respond to critical site reliability issues.
• Do technical interviews to help us recruit engineers and grow the team.
