Responsibilities Work in a hospital-based ICU setting with 18 beds (expanding to 27 beds) Care for critically ill adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with complex or life-threatening conditions Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 2, occasionally 1 : 3 for overflow or PCU downgrades Common cases include sepsis, acute MI, renal failure, post vascular procedures, CV procedures, strokes, TIAs, seizures, lumbar drains, ARDS, ventilator management, and titration of critical drips Shifts are 12 hours, nights, three shifts per week with every other weekend and rotating major holiday coverage Floating required to Stepdown, Med-Surg / Telemetry, or Emergency Department as needed; may assume full patient load if floated Equipment and skills used include mechanical ventilation, BiPap, Cpap, telemetry, IV pumps, and specialty beds Epic EMR is used for documentation Charge Nurse and House Supervisor provide 24 / 7 support Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients requiring invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring RNs take an active role in all aspects of patient care including titrating critical medications and using advanced supportive therapies Unit does not have nurse aides; RN is responsible for complete care of assigned patients General hospital orientation and two 12-hour orientation shifts with a preceptor provided Solid navy scrubs required; no patterns or embroidery permitted; specific guidelines for undershirts and footwear apply Holiday and weekend coverage follows a rotating schedule with staff First day includes general and nursing orientation, computer charting training, and abbreviated skills checklist due within 90 days If floated to Med-Surg / Telemetry, may be responsible for caring for 5-6 patients Hospitalists available 24 / 7 with intensivists not always present; RT available as needed Requirements Active WV or compact RN license required Minimum of 2 years recent ICU experience Prior travel nursing experience required Certifications required : BLS and ACLS (AHA) Experience titrating critical drips such as vasopressors and sedation required CRRT and IABP experience preferred Impella, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications are preferred but not required Must read and interpret telemetry strips independently No travel duos accepted Candidate must reside at least 50 miles from most facility locations for eligibility; no local travelers accepted Previous permanent or travel employment at any affiliated facilities requires a 2-year break before re-application Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-629709.
