Position is responsible to plan, coordinate, and direct land surveying, civil engineering, and / or utility locating projects. The Senior Land Surveyor will lead and oversee designated projects, striving to complete projects within agreed upon budgets and timelines. The Senior Land Surveyor performs and / or coordinates all aspects of land surveying, both in the field and in the office, including preparing crews for field duties, analyzing data and performing research to make boundary determinations, performing survey and construction staking calculations, reviewing and adjusting survey data, and preparing final client deliverables. The Senior Land Surveyor is responsible for establishing and maintaining friendly, professional relationships with project managers during course of work on a project and must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The Senior Land Surveyor will monitor employee productivity by providing useful feedback. The Senior Land Surveyor will implement and enforce company procedures and policies. Additional responsibilities include mentoring, supporting, and coach growth and improvement in the surveying capabilities of junior staff, and special projects as directed by supervising manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMonitor employee productivity by providing useful feedback and trainingAccomplish department objectives by supervising staff and organizing work processesEstablish standards and ensure compliance with legal and company policies and proceduresRelay information from upper management to employees, and vice versaHandle customer issues that might escalate and require a supervisor for managementAssist in the hiring and firing of employeesProject Management, including oversight, direction and support of field and office work associated with Topographic, Boundary, A.L.T.A., Anchor Bolt, Construction Staking and Civil Engineering projects
Research, gather and supply essential documents and materials to direct the completion of field work (i.e. field packets)Support and optimize field crew productivity by arranging for and / or providing necessary field packets in advance of project work, pre and post field work check-ins to anticipate and solve any challenges with upcoming scheduling or deadlinesGuide and direct survey staff to stay on course with project schedules and budgets by monitoring completion of assigned field and office tasksBe available to troubleshoot and / or provide guidance to field crews when issues arise with field workDrive completion of survey projects within contracted budgets and timeframes; provide regular updates to management and ownership on project budget and / or timeline slippageEffectively manage scope creep through timely communication and negotiation of any Extra Work required when scope and / or client needs changeMaintain project files and include all notes, communications, research and design documentsPrepare Survey and Underground Utility Locating client deliverables and ensure project management and QA / QC processes have been completed prior to deliverable going to the next stage of the project
Calculate and analyze field boundary data, while assisting field survey crews on complex survey engagementsAnalyze and interpret public records research including deeds, plans and other relevant project documentsMaintain high standards in survey work orders, including control / datum setupPerform and / or oversee surveying calculationsDelegate and follow up with land survey crews and CAD technicians on assigned tasksSign and stamp deliverablesBuild and enhance Bedrocks brand reputation and client relations
Ensure clients have a clear understanding of their rights, responsibilities, and obligations in relation to survey requirements by providing quality, timely advice and informationPromote frequent and open channels of communication by providing project status updates when sensible, keeping the client looped in on work progressManage client expectations to execute project deliverables on timeProactively communicate relative workload to Operations Manager and plan work to attempt to balance existing workload.
Hold existing clients in high regard and be ready to assist in finding solutionsProfessionally interact over the phone, via email, and in-person with all Bedrock clients, documenting all project notes in the Ajera project management system
