Position Summary
The Medical Coordinator Assistant (MA / EMT) plays a supportive role in promoting the health, recovery, and daily stability of clients enrolled in Recuperative Care programs. Under the supervision of the Medical Coordinator (LVN) and clinical team, this position assists with client health monitoring, supports self-administration of medications, coordinates follow-up care, and ensures accurate documentation in the electronic health record. The MA helps create a safe and trauma-informed environment for clients recovering from illness or injury while experiencing homelessness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct daily well-being checks and support medical intake processes for new clients under clinical supervision.
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating medical and behavioral health appointments, transportation, diagnostics, and follow-up visits.
- Support clients in medication self-administration and monitor adherence to care plans.
- Document all health-related interactions, medication logs, and care coordination in the EHR (NextGen / Chorus); ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Provide basic health education to clients, reinforcing medication adherence, hygiene, and preventive care practices.
- Communicate changes in client condition or care plan adherence to the Medical Coordinator or clinical supervisor promptly.
- Participate in daily huddles and weekly interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings to support integrated client care.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment; assist with facility upkeep and infection control.
- Collaborate with case managers, behavioral health staff, and housing teams to support holistic client recovery.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and WPCC policies and procedures.
- Support tracking of program metrics and client health outcomes as directed by the Medical Coordinator or Director.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
High School Diploma or GED (required)Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or EMT certification (required)Experience
Minimum 1 year of experience in a clinical, shelter, or social services setting (preferred)Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, chronic illness, or behavioral health challenges(preferred)
Familiarity with EHR systems and multidisciplinary care supportCertifications or Licenses
CMA, RMA, or EMT certification (required)Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within 2 weeks of hire)Core Competencies
