Surgical Tech First Assistant Waco, TX

Sunbelt Staffing is seeking an experienced Surgical Tech First Assistant for a 13-week travel contract in Waco, TX, with potential for extension. This dual-role position functions both as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and a First Assistant, assisting surgeons and surgical teams during major and complex procedures.

Assignment Details : Location : Waco, TX

Length : 13 weeks, temp-to-perm opportunity

Shift : AM, 4x10s (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri)

Work Hours : 10-hour days

Interview : 1 Round Virtual

Scrub Color : Provided

Requirements :

Certification : BLS, CSFA (NBSTSA)

Minimum 4 years of OR experience

Extensive experience in Orthopedic, Spine, and Colorectal procedures

Knowledge of surgical field preparation, instrument setup, and delivery prep

Key Responsibilities :

Prepare operating room for scheduled procedures, ensuring all equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and functioning

Scrub and assist in surgeries, including positioning, prepping, draping, and passing instruments

Perform complex surgical techniques within Texas scope of practice

Assist surgeons by anticipating needs during procedures, tying off vessels, stabilizing drains, and applying wound dressings

Maintain instrument trays, perform quality control, and ensure OR cleanliness

Coordinate with surgeons, pharmacy, and vendors as needed

Educate and precept staff, sharing knowledge of surgical techniques and protocols

Skills & Abilities :

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Advanced knowledge of anatomy, surgical instruments, and surgeon preferences

Ability to work effectively across hospital departments

Strong attention to detail, organization, and surgical protocol compliance
