Director Of Advance

The New York City Mayor's Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is head of the executive branch of New York City's government. The Adams' administration is leading the fight to serve the people of the greatest city in the world, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, working to make New York City's economy stronger, reducing inequality, improving public safety, and making the city more affordable that meets the needs of all New Yorkers. The Office of Advance is responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of Mayoral events. The office works directly with a multitude of City Hall departments and Citywide Agencies to ensure all logistical aspects of events are arranged in advance; the office is also responsible for the management of staff at events to ensure each event runs smoothly.

The Director of Advance directly oversees the planning and logistics for all events featuring the Mayor of New York City. The Director must be flexible in terms of work schedule, work well under pressure, be able to make in-the-moment decisions when necessary, and work well with others. They should also be able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail, have good communication skills, be creative, and be willing to not only manage but also do the necessary physical and logistical work required for events. The Director of Advance also manages the Deputy Directors of Advance, as well as the Mayor's Advance team. The responsibilities of the Director will include, but are not limited to :

  • Overseeing the logistical production of official events, such as press conferences, town-hall style meetings, rallies, interviews, virtual events, and a variety of photo opportunities.
  • Conducting walkthroughs and location scouts of venues in advance of identifying locations for Mayoral / City Hall events.
  • Briefing the Mayor and other senior administration officials before events.
  • Traveling throughout NYC to advance the Mayor's events.
  • Working closely with the communications, press, community affairs, and intergovernmental affairs staff to ensure smooth preparation, staffing, and execution of events.
  • Liaising with venue managers, vendors, other government agencies, community members, and stakeholders as appropriate for event planning and production.
  • Assisting with the on-site event set-up.
  • Utilizing Principal Management skills to deliver necessary information and guidance to the Mayor and Senior Officials in order to successfully execute events / appearances.
  • Communicating with the appropriate teams on the coverage details of the Mayor's events.

About You - You have experience working closely with high-level executives and / or political figures and possess the necessary principal management skills. You can think outside of the box, solve real-time problems, and possess a strong attention to detail. You have a valid driver's license for at least 6 months and are comfortable driving in NYC. If you are living outside New York State or New York City, you must be willing to obtain a New York driver's license and New York City residency, if hired. You have the ability to work well under pressure and maintain an enthusiastic work ethic, including embracing different work styles. You have demonstrated commitment to equity and public service. You possess cultural competence to effectively work with diverse populations.
