Job Overview

American Rooter is looking for an experienced and safety-focused Excavation Operator to join our field operations team. This is a hands-on role for someone with deep expertise in water and sewer line excavations. You'll operate a mini excavator to complete precision trenching, street cuts, and backfilling—ensuring quality repairs with minimal disruption. Ideal candidates will be confident navigating around gas, water, and electrical utilities and comfortable communicating with inspectors to meet municipal codes.

Key Responsibilities

Operate a mini excavator to dig, repair, and replace residential water and sewer service lines.

Perform precision trenching and backfilling in streets, driveways, and yards.

Work safely around gas mains, water mains, and electrical lines.

Complete at least two service line excavations or repairs daily.

Ensure all work meets code and passes inspection.

Coordinate jobsite activity and safety with the crew.

Use mobile apps to document job details and upload site photos.

Communicate professionally with inspectors and internal team members.

Abide by service coverage requirements of our protection partners.

Perform minor site restorations and cleanups post-excavation.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of experience in water / sewer line excavation.

Skilled mini excavator operator with experience in residential street cuts.

Familiarity with underground utility safety practices.

Ability to tow excavation equipment as needed.

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (CDL preferred but not required).

Physically fit and capable of outdoor labor in various weather conditions.

Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.

Strong work ethic with attention to detail and professionalism.
