Position OverviewReporting to the Associate Director for the Wingspan : Center for Learning and Writing Support, the Student Program Manager for Peer Educator Development works as part of the collaborative leadership team for the Wingspan to lead peer educator [and tutor] development for a range of peer support programs. This role works closely with the Wingspan leadership team to provide vision for peer educator professional development to ensure peer educators receive foundational to advanced skills in providing academic support to meet the needs of students participating in Wingspan services. As part of this work, the Student Program Manager will leverage existing and develop new training materials and processes to create and provide a coherent professional development program consistent with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) standards for International Peer Educator Training Certification (IPTC) and International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) standards.
The Student Program Manager supervises and manages the CRLA peer educator [and tutor] certification efforts and takes a lead role in the development of instructional / training content and learning resources for Wingspan programs and its peer educators. The Student Program Manager will also facilitate how the Wingspan tracks individual training and tutoring [peer education] experience hours for the awarding of CRLA certification to peer educators and tutors. In addition, the Student Program Manager will support peer educator recruitment, observation processes, and the assessment of peer education and development.
Unit Overview :
University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is a comprehensive student support unit designed to provide resources to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas while supporting the University's commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. Specifically, UASC supports the intellectual development of individuals by encouraging active participation both in and out of the classroom; coordinating services and programs in which students can acquire and practice life management, decision-making, and learning skills; and linking students to other resources that will help them learn these skills. UASC includes the Wingspan-Center for Learning and Writing Support, the Student Access Center, and the University Testing Center. UASC is a department within the Office of Academic Success.Job Description60% : Manages, develops, and implements Wingspan online and in-person training processes for peer educator [and tutor] development for over 110 peer educators. Training may be provided directly to peer educators and / or provided via a train-the-trainer model to relevant Wingspan employees with direct oversight for peer educator programs. Training must be delivered in a manner consistent with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) standards for International Peer Educator Training Certification (IPTC) and International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) standards. Manages ITTPC and IPTC processes and recertification applications for CRLA and coordinates Wingspan student employee professional development opportunities. Supervises graduate assistants and office assistants that help with program coordination.
20% : Manages, implements, and communicates to Wingspan employees overseeing peer educator programs a clear process for tracking training hours and tutoring, writing consulting, and peer educator experience hours. Ensures the process for tracking and calculating CRLA training and experience hours are within CRLA guidelines. Maintains a master record of individual peer educator’s [tutor’s] training and experience hours tracking sheet.
15% : Coordinates and implements assessment and evaluation of peer educator training to ensure learning outcomes are being met and are consistent with CRLA certification requirements. Serves as a member on the peer educator recruitment and observation team, supporting both in-person and virtual tutor observations. Assists the Associate Director in coordinating assessment of programming and developing annual reports.
