DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

Risk and Safety Services is composed of four departments where each of these units are dedicated to maintaining and promoting an aspect of the health and safety of all members of the campus community. Risk and Safety Services provides leadership and coordinates multidisciplinary services to sustain a safe and healthy campus by managing risk, preventing injury and loss, and coordinating access, and emergency response and recovery. The Office of Risk Services and Occupational Health is a department within Risk and Safety Services and administratively located within the Finance, Operations, and Administration (FOA) Division. The Office of Risk Services and Occupational Health supports the university by identifying and developing strategies to minimize the impact of risk exposures and recommending strategies to reduce or eliminate risks. The Office of Risk Services and Occupational Health's areas of focus include, safety and loss prevention, travel risk, insurance programs and enterprise risk management. By strategically managing risks, we can strengthen the campus safety culture.

JOB SUMMARY

The Occupational Health Analyst in the Office of Risk Services and Occupational Health provides high-level risk analysis and occupational health analysis support. Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Risk Services and Occupational Health, the Occupational Health Analyst will provide internal data analysis and departmental support. The analyst must demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain effective solutions. The analyst will support financial reporting, analyses, and transfers for the Office of Risk Services and Occupational Health.

APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

Budgeted Salary : $83,000 - $85,900. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

    JOB DUTIES

    50% - Risk Analysis

  • Conducts risk management analysis with respect to occupational insurance claims
  • administration.

  • Administers highly complex claims for monitoring payments.
  • Performs complex accounting and risk finance.
  • Implements and monitors control strategies involving claim payments.
  • Liaises with third party claims administrator to resolve claims per industry guidelines in a
  • timely manner.

  • Conducts financial reporting and analysis.
  • Performs transfers, and financial support.
  • Conducts risk analysis of internal data.
  • 50% - Departmental Support and Analysis

  • Provides operating support for the occupational health self-scheduling portal system.
  • Conducts analysis of the occupational health calendar management tools.
  • Coordinates occupational health programmatic updates.
  • Provides support for the automated reminders software application system.
  • Conducts reporting and analytics.
  • Performs analysis of inventory management.
  • Provides research and analysis support.
  • Coordinates resource management support.
  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience and / or training
  • Thorough knowledge in the following areas : risk management, insurance, analysis and accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience in accounting and accounting principles.
  • Thorough knowledge of common computer application programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of rules and regulations that pertain to the field.
  • Demonstrated customer service orientation.
  • Excellent written communication skills. Good attention to detail.
  • Proven interpersonal skills, active listening skills, and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems and exercise judgement in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Proven ability to concisely present complex risk findings and make recommendations verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated experience in using a high level of discretion and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to uphold high ethical standards and act with integrity in all professional settings
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience using higher education analytical and financial applications.
  • SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Ensure that sensitive information is properly safeguarded. Follow all organizational policies and laws on data protection and privacy. This includes secure handling of physical and digital records and proper usage of IT systems to prevent data leaks. The unauthorized or improper disclosure of confidential work-related information obtained from any source on any work-related matter is a violation of these expectations.
