Job description:

A well-established local company is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Public Works Maintenance Worker to support the maintenance and upkeep of streets, parks, and public facilities.

Essential Functions

• Maintain safe, clean, and accessible public areas including parks, airports, water stations, sewer systems, streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, and easements
• Operate power and hand tools and heavy equipment for construction and maintenance projects; inspect equipment for proper operation and safety and report defects as needed
• Follow and implement all safety procedures when working with tools, equipment, and materials
• Remove, repair, and maintain asphalt and concrete surfaces
• Perform tree trimming and removal near streets, sidewalks, water and sewer systems, and parks
• Mow, edge, irrigate, and maintain park grounds in preparation for public use and events
• Empty trash receptacles and maintain cleanliness at park locations
• Perform weed abatement along roadsides, fields, airport properties, and easements
• Repair and maintain sprinkler and irrigation systems in park areas
• Implement traffic control plans to minimize accidents and injuries
• Install, replace, and maintain street signs
• Paint traffic markings, streets, and crosswalks
• Remove graffiti from buildings, structures, and streets
• Clean and maintain storm drains, sewer systems, and flood control facilities
• Perform miscellaneous duties including warehousing, irrigation support, and mowing of company-managed properties
• Maintain regular and timely attendance
• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

• Street, park, and facility maintenance concepts, techniques, and materials
• Asphalt and concrete repair and installation methods
• Park maintenance and beautification practices
• Safe operation of power tools, hand tools, and heavy equipment
• Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions
• Traffic control procedures and safety standards
• Understanding of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Basic project and task coordination skills
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail
• Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation

Work Environment

• Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
• Physical labor including lifting, bending, walking, and operating equipment
• May involve exposure to traffic, machinery, and construction environments
