Job description

The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for registering patients into the health information system by interviewing patients to gather and process complete demographic, insurance, and other visit-related information.

Responsibilities include accurate identification of patients, identifying the source of payment, verifying insurance eligibility and benefits, collecting upfront payment, and interacting with patients and families, insurers, members of hospital departments, providers, and other team members. Patient Access Specialist is also responsible for providing excellent customer service by demonstrating behaviors that align with the organization’s core values and The Augusta Way.

Requirements :

Education Requirements :

  • High School Diploma
  • Must possess written and verbal communication skills

Previous Work Experience Requirements :

  • 1 year of previous experience in customer service.
  • 1 year of previous experience in general clerical office or administrative duties experience or applicable classwork may be substituted.
  • Skill Requirements :

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Telephone etiquette skills.
  • Computer Keyboard / Typing – 35 words per minute.
  • Problem-solving (minor).
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Preferred Experience and Skills :

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in hospital, healthcare practice, or health insurance company.
  • Medical Terminology : Work experience or classwork.
  • Prefer CHAA certification with the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM).
  • Licensure / Certification :

  • Preferred CHAA (Certified Healthcare Access Associate).
