Lecturer of Urban Studies
Barnard is a premier liberal arts undergraduate college for women in New York City affiliated with Columbia University. The Barnard-Columbia Urban Studies Program is seeking a Lecturer in Community Development Planning and Engagement an indefinitely renewable appointment starting July 1 2026. The Lecturer position is full-time with opportunities for review and renewal at the 3rd year and promotion at the 7th year of service (to Senior Lecturer).

The Lecturer will also have year-round responsibilities for coordinating with community organizations related to their courses.
The Urban Studies Program is home to an interdisciplinary major with an emphasis on the urban social sciences and the current faculty have strengths in both US-based and global urban issues. Renewal consideration will entail ongoing strength in teaching and evidence of successful engagement with community organizations service to the program as faculty and major advisor and engagement in a research program.
Skills Qualifications & Requirements :
Required Qualifications
Candidates should have completed the PhD in Planning (City Urban Regional) but those with terminal degrees in related fields will be considered.
Candidates must have significant teaching experience and demonstrated success in incorporating community engagement into their courses. Candidates should have extensive existing relationships with New York City community-based organizations or demonstrated experience building those kinds of relationships in other places.
