POSITION OVERVIEW
Full-time (Doctoral) Lecturer in Social / Cultural Anthropology. The Anthropology Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY invites applications for a full-time (Doctoral) Lecturer in Social / Cultural Anthropology beginning August 2026.
John Jay College has a long-standing reputation for scholarly and public engagement on issues related to social justice. The Anthropology Department is home to two undergraduate majors : (1) Anthropology and (2) Deviance, Crime, and Culture. We seek a colleague whose teaching, research and commitment to service will contribute meaningfully to both majors and complement our department's existing strengths.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
We welcome candidates whose work engages contemporary themes such as the anthropology of religion and ritual; environmental justice; migration, and human rights. We are especially interested in applicants whose research addresses intersecting issues such as border regimes, Indigenous and Afro-diasporic epistemologies, political ecologies of extraction and dispossession, climate displacement, and the criminalization of mobility.
COMPENSATION
$62,241 - $107,686 (Doctoral Lecturer) or $64,910 - $101,737 (Lecturer). Salary commensurate with education and credentials.
