About The Position

Key Responsibilities : Works under the direction of the physician and the Arizona State Nurse Practice Act to provide nursing care to patients in compliance with nursing standards and regulations. Utilizes the nursing process to make continuing assessments of the patient’s total health needs; implements nursing interventions based on assessment data; develops and implements the nursing plan of care and evaluates the patient’s response. Strives to provide excellent patient care with compassion, tact, cheerfulness, accuracy, patience, flexibility in scheduling, calmness in emergency, and ability to work well with team members, receiving and applying feedback from peers and superiors. Assists with orientation of new staff to the unit as requested. Quality of Care and Nursing Process

• The nurse provides evidence-based care to prevent the development of a Healthcare Acquired Condition and hospital readmissions.
• The nurse practices standard precautions during patient contact and while handling contaminated materials.
• The nurse complies with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and works to reduce hospital acquired infections and other conditions. Assessment : The nurse collects patient health data.
• Nursing assessments are completed according to hospital and unit specific policies, procedures, and standards of nursing care.
• Collects pertinent data from the patient, significant others, and health care providers.
• A comprehensive patient history and physical is completed in a timely manner and includes biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care abilities, educational, age specific, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Diagnosis / Care Needs : The nurse analyzes the assessment data to identify care needs.
• Nursing diagnoses / care needs are derived from the assessment data.
• Involving the patient and significant other as appropriate, the nurse formulates a plan to provide appropriate care based on identified patient needs.

Implementation : The patient’s nursing care is based on identified nursing diagnoses / care needs and patient care standards, and is consistent with the therapies of other disciplines.

2. Equipment utilized in the unit / dept. (Is there computerized charting, medication systems, etc.)

Pyxis medication system Meditech charting System Robotics, General, GYN, Endo, Cysto, Neuro, Thoracic, Endocrine, Podiatry, Pulmonary, and other equipment

3. Required skills and minimum years of experience.

Education : Associate Degree in Nursing Minimum of two years experience as a Circulator in the OR, with the most recent experience within the past 6 months.

4. Specific licensures and certifications / registrations required. (ARRT, CRT, BLS, ACLS, etc)

Current, valid Arizona RN license or compact state RN license Current BLS certification from American Heart Association Basic EKG competency ACLS from American Heart Association CNOR preferred

5. Shift or schedule requirements. (Will the employee ever work alone? Is call required? If so, how often? Are weekends required?)

4-10 hour shifts a week. 0645-1715 2-3 late shft requirements from 1715 to 1900 a month Call is approximately 1 shift a week and 1 weekend shift (Saturday or Sunday) a month for a total of 5 days a month, unless there is an increased need. You will be on your own while you are on call and on the weekend call shift and you will be expected to book cases and act as the Lead or Charge Nurse that day. You will be responsible for coordinating patient transfer for Pre OP workup, Intra OP circulator, and you will also be the secondary PACU RN for the final patient of the day and will need to stay with the PACU RN until that patient is discharged.

6 busy OR suites that perform General, Ortho, Neuro, Podiatry, GYN, Thoracic, and Endocrine procedures 2 Endo suites 1 Cysto suite

8. Nurse to patient ratio of this unit. (nursing only) 1 : 1

9. Dress Code :

Surgical Scrubs will be provided. You must wear closed toed shoes.

10. Tell us about the unit / department specific training and orientation program.

1 day of hospital orientation and 1-3 shifts in the OR depending on the need.
