The candidate must have strong clinical and communication skills, accountability, and provide high-quality care for individuals housed in the Harris County Jail. Responsibilities include intake health assessments, managing urgent care issues, treating chronic illnesses, and collaborating with advanced practice practitioners. Work in conjunction with Harris County Sheriff Office deputies, nursing staff, and on-site services (radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, laboratory). May require communication with the Harris Health Transfer Center or other local hospitals for higher levels of care. Ensure organizational compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide intake health assessments and manage urgent care issues for jail-inmate patients.
• Identify and treat acute and chronic medical conditions in a correctional health setting.
• Collaborate with advanced practice practitioners, nursing staff, and on-site services (radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, laboratory).
• Coordinate with the Harris Health Transfer Center or external hospitals as needed for higher levels of care.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Communicate and collaborate with Harris County Sheriff Office deputies as appropriate to patient care and safety.

Other requirements and notes include general scheduling considerations and the need to submit leave requests in advance to arrange coverage. CME requirements include five business days per year; notice of leave should be provided sixty (60) days in advance.
