Certification : BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Licensure :

  • Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) MRI Certification (MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) OR
  • Current registration and licensure by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and MRI certification through ARRT required within 9 months of hire
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Demonstrates ability to effectively perform advanced MRI angiography to include bilateral run-offs and the required reformatting with additions and subtraction of raw data.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and responsibility for magnetic resonance safety compliance requirements.
  • Education : Graduate of Radiologic Technology Program or MRI Program Accredited through ARRT or ARMRIT

    Experience : On the job training with outside didactic education i.e., Galveston College or previous MRI experience

    Position Title : MRI Technologist

    Department : Radiology / Diagnostic Imaging

    Reports To : Radiology Supervisor or Department Manager

    Employment Type : Full-Time / Part-Time / PRN

    Position Summary :

    The MRI Technologist performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The technologist is responsible for preparing patients, operating MRI scanners, ensuring image quality, and maintaining patient safety.

    Key Responsibilities :

    Operate MRI equipment to produce diagnostic images of specific parts of the body.

    Screen patients for contraindications to MRI procedures (e.g., pacemakers, implants).

    Explain procedures and answer patient questions to ensure comfort and cooperation.

    Position patients correctly and use immobilization devices when necessary.

    Administer contrast materials as needed and monitor patient response.

    Maintain accurate patient records, including documenting procedures and patient histories.

    Ensure compliance with safety standards, including magnetic field safety protocols.

    Monitor and maintain MRI equipment; report any malfunctions or maintenance needs.

    Collaborate with radiologists and other healthcare staff to interpret images and provide optimal care.

    Adhere to hospital, state, and federal regulations regarding imaging procedures and patient care.

    Maintain continuing education and certification / licensure as required.

    Qualifications :

    Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.

    Completion of an accredited MRI technologist training program.

    Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in MRI or equivalent (e.g., ARMRIT).

    Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
