Jail Complex Correctional Officer
The purpose of this class is to assist corrections deputies by performing various functions associated with the care, custody and control of inmates. This class is responsible for varying job duties depending on area of assignment. This class works according to established procedures under general supervision; makes decisions according to established guidelines.
The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional tasks related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Work is performed inside the Jail Complex. Employees will have contact with inmates during the normal course of the work day.
Work is completed in twelve (12) hour shifts; employees must be able to work shifts : (6 : 00am - 6 : 00pm or 6 : 00pm - 6 : 00am.) Applicants need to be available to work any shift; days / nights, weekends and holidays.
Employees are subjected to extended work days and hours to meet operational needs or in the event of an emergency event.
Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference / employment / neighborhood checks. Submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and / or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a polygraph and criminal history review. Candidates must also pass a pre-employment drug screening. While employed, individuals will be subject to return-to-duty and post-accident drug screening.
