The Cafe General Manager position is a collaborative, hands-on role, often working side by side with teammates and management. Ideal candidates bring their passion for coffee and hospitality to our growing, fast paced environment. Cafe General Managers are responsible for leading our teams, overseeing daily operations and managing staff on duty. They are committed to ensuring excellent guest service, exceptional product quality, and a welcoming cafe atmosphere. This role requires strong leadership skills, financial acumen, and the ability to cultivate a positive culture among staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Leadership & Team Development :
- Recruit, train, develop, and onboard a high-performing team
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture with strong communication and accountability
- Lead by example while working side-by-side with your team
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to staff
- Create, implement, and monitor necessary SOPs for the cafe
Operations & Service Excellence :
Oversee daily cafe operationsMaintain high service standards, ensuring a consistently excellent guest experienceUphold quality assurance standards for all menu itemsCreate staff schedule while focusing on labor costs to maximize efficiencyEnsure smooth coordination between all positions in the cafeManage inventory, ordering, and supplies related to all cafe operationsUse a keen attention to detail to monitor all facets of cafe operationsFinancial Management :
Monitor budgets, sales, and expenses to meet financial goalsTrack and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive revenue and profitabilityImplement cost-control strategies without compromising qualityMonitor sales and revenue, and implement strategies to maximize profitabilityPrepare reports on sales, labor, and other financial aspects as requiredGuest Experience & Community Engagement :
Act as the face of the store, engaging with guests and building a loyal customer baseHandle guest feedback with professionalism and problem-solving skillsBuild relationships with the community to enhance brand presenceEnsure all guests receive prompt and courteous serviceMonitor ambiance and service standardsCompliance & Maintenance :
Maintain a clean guest facing environment at all timesEnsure compliance with health and safety regulations, labor laws, and company policiesHave or obtain directly after hiring : City of Philadelphia Food Safety CertificateOversee facility upkeep and coordinate with vendors as neededUphold cleanliness and sanitation standards in all FOH & BOH areasCommunication :
Strong communication skills are essential : coordinate with owners, managers, and staff to ensure smooth cafe operationsResolve guest and staff issues promptlyQualifications :
2+ years of experience as a Cafe Manager or similar leadership roleA guest-focused mindset with a passion for hospitalityStrong knowledge of cafe operationsComprehensive knowledge of coffee origins, processes, preparation and brewing techniquesAbility to coach, mentor, & develop hourly team membersSelf motivated, organized, and detail-orientedKnowledge of POS systems and restaurant management softwareAbility to multitask and work well under pressureAbility to adapt to a fast-paced and occasional high-stress environmentExcellent communication, organizational, and leadership skillsExperience with financial management, including P&L oversight and budgetingAbility to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidaysDOH Accreditation and / or ServSafe Certified is a plus!Expectations :
Attend working shifts on time and in accordance with dress code and appearance guidelinesEnsure all necessary shift coverageMaster knowledge of products sold in the storeAvailability to work a varied and flexible schedule, including the busiest cafe shifts such as early mornings, weekends, and holidaysAverage 45 hours / weekPhysical Demands :
This position will require the employee to periodically lift, push, pull or carry items up to 50 lbs in weight (putting away deliveries of boxes, heavy items such as coffee orders, etc)This position requires the employee to stand for extended periods of timeThis position will require the employee to periodically climb stairs, ramps, or uneven surfacesThis position will require the employee to work with equipment that is hot and / or sharpCompensation & Benefits :
