Job description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Plumbing Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for commercial plumbing projects up to $3M. This role involves analyzing bid documents, identifying scope and risk, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, and supporting pre-construction planning. A strong background in the plumbing trade, estimating software, and applicable code compliance is essential.

About the Role

The Plumbing Estimator will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of cost estimates for various plumbing projects.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze bid documents (drawings, specifications, etc.) and site conditions to define complete scope of work, including all general conditions and requirements.
  • Provide alternate scope of work options based on site conditions, engineering constraints, material availability, and cost efficiency.
  • Identify all relevant national, state, and local plumbing codes and ensure estimates reflect compliance.
  • Recognize project risks and ensure appropriate costs are included to mitigate exposure.
  • Obtain, review, and evaluate subcontractor proposals to ensure full alignment with bid documents and project requirements.
  • Manage Request for Information (RFI) processes and handle change order requests efficiently and accurately.
  • Prepare detailed submittal packages in compliance with project specifications.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to coordinate all pre-construction requirements and ensure seamless project transition.
  • Leverage existing supplier relationships to obtain competitive pricing and lead time information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental goals.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience estimating commercial plumbing projects up to $3M.
  • 5+ years of field experience as a journeyman plumber or plumbing foreman.

    • Required Skills

  • Proficient in estimating techniques, cost control methods, and interpretation of cost data.
  • Hands-on experience with estimating software such as Accubid / LiveCount or equivalent platforms.
  • Familiar with bid collaboration tools like Bid Board or similar systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional and courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with high attention to detail and organization.
  • Capable of analyzing data, summarizing key points, and editing documentation effectively.
  • Proficient in using business systems (email, CRM, reports, quotes, invoices, etc.).
  • Skilled in creating and analyzing Excel spreadsheets and Word documents.

  • Experience with additional estimating software or tools.
  • Knowledge of advanced plumbing systems and technologies.
