Spreetail is a high-velocity ecommerce and fulfillment brand partner operating across major 3P marketplaces. We’re hiring a hands-on General Counsel to be our primary legal operator and strategic thought partner as we rapidly scale. This is a VP-level, sleeves-up role : you’ll spend the bulk of your time in the documents (redlines, structures, negotiations), not directing a large department. You will own commercial contracting end-to-end, manage outside counsel with rigor, and offer your own point of view on litigation strategy. We strongly desire a GC who can calibrate risk, find a path to “yes,” and move fast without sacrificing judgment.

What you will do :

  • Commercial Contracting & Deal Management : Draft, redline, and negotiate a high volume of complex commercial agreements daily (e.g., brand, vendor, SaaS, logistics), ensuring a fast, business-friendly deal desk.
  • Legal Process & Tool Development : Design and implement legal self-service tools, clause libraries, and CLM workflows to drive contract velocity and lower internal friction.
  • Litigation & Dispute Strategy : Provide opinioned leadership on early case assessment, discovery, and settlement, and direct outside counsel on contract disputes, IP enforcement, and product claims.
  • Outside Counsel & Budget Management : Tightly scope, set budgets, and manage outside counsel for all legal matters, ensuring costs are controlled and strategy aligns with business goals.
  • Trade, Marketplace & Payments Counsel : Advise on specialized areas like tariffs / Incoterms, customs, AP / AR mechanics, brand funding, and marketplace policies.
  • Intellectual Property (IP) Protection : Oversee trademark / copyright, brand registry, takedowns, and licensing structures to actively protect the company's brand and IP assets.
  • Cross-Functional Business Coaching : Partner with and coach deal teams (Merchandising, Ops, Finance, Tech) on contract structure, leverage, and translating legal risk into business outcomes.

What experiences will help you in this role :

  • Legal Education & Admission : JD and active bar admission in at least one U.S. state (or eligible for in-house registration).
  • Extensive Legal Experience : 10–15+ years of legal experience with a significant amount of in-house time.
  • Industry Expertise : Proven experience in ecommerce, retail, supply chain, marketplaces, or logistics is strongly preferred.
  • Deep Commercial Contracting Expertise : Expertise in a broad range of commercial agreements including supply, distribution, dropship / fulfillment, and SaaS / data contracts.
  • Process & Scalability Track Record : Track record of building templates, playbooks, and CLM workflows to simplify and scale legal support.
  • Specialized Domain Knowledge : Working knowledge of topics such as Incoterms, tariffs / COO, product safety / labeling, marketing claims, and IP / brand protection.
  • Business-First Judgment : Demonstrated ability to be a "Business-first counselor" who is hands-on, practical, and comfortable taking calculated risks.
  • Salary : $186,000 - $315,000 a year. Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $186,000 / year to $315,000 / year. Pay is based on a number of factors including geographic market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Spreetail is a total compensation company. Depending on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and / or other benefits.
