Process Safety Engineer

Overview

The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for leading and managing process safety initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices. This role focuses on identifying and mitigating risks associated with chemical and manufacturing processes while driving continuous improvement in process safety management (PSM) systems. The ideal candidate will have a background in process safety, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance, as well as experience working in a manufacturing or chemical processing environment.

Process Safety Management (PSM) & Compliance

• Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of PSM programs in compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and other applicable regulations.
• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Layer of Protection Analyses (LOPA), and Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP) to identify and mitigate risks.
• Develop and maintain process safety documentation, including Process Safety Information (PSI), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and safety guidelines.
• Perform qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, including consequence modeling, dispersion analysis, and fire / explosion risk evaluations.
• Lead or support incident investigations related to process safety events, root cause analyses (RCA), and the development of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on incident learnings and industry best practices.
• Provide process safety training to engineers, operators, and maintenance personnel to enhance safety awareness and competency.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure process safety is integrated into design, modifications, and operational procedures.
• Support capital projects by reviewing process safety requirements during design and implementation phases.
