Certifications : Certified and Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Clienttion Therapy
Must-Have : Graduate of a JRCERT-accredited program in radiation therapy or a suitable equivalent
Description :
Administers safe and accurate radiation therapy treatment.
Ensures accurate treatment delivery and data capture.
Demonstrates sound clinical judgment and adheres to accurate treatment and simulation delivery.
Gathers necessary set-up aids and prepares the room and equipment for the patient.
Demonstrates necessary manual dexterity and psychomotor skills to operate and manipulate complex radiation-emitting treatment units.
Works under stress and pressure.
Adapts without difficulty to changes in work schedule or assigned area as departmental patient load dictates.
Visually monitors the patient for unusual reactions and events and reports these to the radiation oncologist throughout the course of treatment.
Verbally reinforces radiation oncologist's advice to patients regarding reactions to treatment and their care.
Refers patients to other allied health specialists, such as social workers, dietitians, and nursing.
Maintains appropriate treatment and simulation records and data.
Complies with departmental quality assurance practices.
Visually ensures that consent forms for treatment are in the record and have been signed by the patient before administering the treatment.
Monitors and maintains daily treatment records and machine quality assurance.
Adheres to portal image review and approval guidelines as required by the department and adjusts in-field placement as needed.
Verbally notifies physics or engineering teams if measurements do not fall into accepted parameters.
Visually recognizes and reports erratic operation of equipment to supervisors and engineering staff.
Checks prescription, set-up instructions, new start procedures, and patient information in the record and verification system.
Attends planning clinic as assigned.
Ensures that appropriate clinical skills are learned and maintained to support treatment and simulation delivery.
Maintains departmentally identified base competencies, including performing calculations.
Documents and maintains competency assessment criteria accurately.
Facilitates learning consistent with expectations of documented competency level by attending lectures, seminars, and in-services to stay updated on new techniques.
Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and professional behaviors.
Participates in competency assessments.
Consistently works within the scope of practice and competency level outlined in the Natural Progression Plan.
Participates in clinical instruction and evaluation.
Actively participates in practitioner / student education and assessment.
Demonstrates practice-related learning by sharing knowledge and skills with students and peers.
Participates in departmental and institutional learning initiatives and in-services.
Orients and teaches new students and therapists rotating to the treatment unit.
Participates in the monthly evaluations of students, assessing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor objectives.
Completes internal variance forms for any errors and forwards them to the supervisor for follow-up within 24 hours.
Consistently adheres to all departmental policies concerning radiation therapy treatment, attendance, and dress code.
Adheres to time management procedures.
Utilizes resources and controls resources through careful management of supplies and equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills :
Able to complete a clinical on-call new start, including the necessary calculations.
Able to perform a clinical template of electron fields.
Able to successfully immobilize the prostate and rectum using techniques with gas release.
Able to deliver radiation to breasts using free breathing multi-isocenter setup techniques.
Able to deliver radiation using the Active Breathing Coordinator system.
Completes a 6-month rotation in CT simulation to obtain specific skills.
Masters daily and weekly quality assurance for CT simulator and LapLaser system.
Successfully produces custom bolus devices for prescribed treatment.
Able to document patient setup, complete quality checklist items, and schedule treatment appointments.
Able to simulate various sites including necessary immobilization devices.
