Educational Interpreter - Naperville, Illinois

A contract position is available in Naperville, IL for an experienced Educational Interpreter to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students in diverse school settings. This role facilitates communication among students, educators, and peers, ensuring equitable access to the general education curriculum and school activities according to Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) standards.

Key responsibilities include:

• Deliver accurate and impartial interpreting and transliterating services in classrooms, extracurricular activities, and school events.
• Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL), Manually Coded English (MCE), or other communication methods outlined in student IEPs.
• Adapt signing style to meet individual student language needs and developmental levels.
• Review classroom materials, lesson plans, and terminology for effective assignment preparation.
• Maintain confidentiality by complying with FERPA and district policies.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, support staff, and educational teams to support student communication access.
• Encourage student independence and self-advocacy.
• Engage in ongoing professional development to sustain certification and enhance interpreting skills.

Qualifications required:

• Valid Illinois Educational Interpreter License (ELS).
• Passing score on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) or an equivalent assessment as mandated by ISBE.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret in various educational and social settings.
