Job Summary : The Chassis Mechanic Helper assists mechanics in the maintenance, inspection, and repair of chassis and trailer equipment. This position supports daily operations by preparing tools, performing basic mechanical tasks, and ensuring a clean and safe work environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, and eager to learn and grow within a mechanic role.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Assist mechanics with DOT and FMCSA inspection, maintenance, and repair of chassis and trailers.
- Perform mechanical work such as removing and replacing tires, lights, brake components, and other parts under supervision.
- Adjust tire pressure to recommended levels.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the work area and ensure proper disposal of waste materials.
- Manage, maintain, and take care of company tools.
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and OSHA guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or lead mechanic
Required and Preferred Skills / Abilities :
Familiar with DOT and FMCSA regulationsMechanical knowledge : 1 year (Preferred)Ability to use hand and power tools safely.Able to work flexible hoursFamiliar with tire replacement and patchingPhysical Requirements :
Able to lift 75lbsAble to access truck and chassis undercarriageFlexibility : While performing repairs, the mechanic must often work in cramped places, such as underneath a jacked-up truck, chassis, or trailer.Vision : They need to be able to read diagrams. Often, they are required to work with color-coded wiring.Hearing : Often the mechanic works with air compressors and pressurized parts. They need to be able to hear and find any air leaks in the system.
